2005 transit connect tdci p0251

Postby Trav » Mon Dec 03, 2018 8:17 pm

Hi,

I have started looking at a 1.8 transit connect tdci with 112000 miles on the clockthat cranks but will not start.the fuel system is Delphi common rail, It has the fault code P0251 I have checked the fuel filter isn’t choked, removed the pressure regulator and beach tested it it operates fine on beach at 10.9v and 1amp of current however when connected to the multi plug on the vehicle it does not operate even tho there is 10v present with the ignition on.

My next couple of checks are injector leak off test and the fuel rail pressure sensor does anybody know what the output signal voltages are at different pressures?

Also the Rev counter doesn’t even budge at start up while turning engine over on the starter motor at about 300rpm. I do plan on scoping Cam and Crank sensors but is this pretty normal for it not to be this responsive?

All advise and assistance is welcomed

Thanks

No I don't
That's a 3pin connection, which pin is signal and is it def. DC analogue?

Yeh that’s the one. It’s located on the fuel rail/spider.

My one at 800kp is reading 0.2v from what I have found on the internet at 0kp it should be 0.5v? I have a good ground signal from pcm and supply voltage to the sensor, but still can’t seem to get regular to operate so can build fuel pressure.

OK, mine is a Siemens but:
Ignition on, 0.5v
At idle, 1.2v
Haven't driven with voltmeter connected yet, will update.

It’s ok I have managed to get 350-400bar pressure and fuel all the way to the injectors. Still no start think maybe looking at problem with crank sensor and injectors not opening. Fault code p0251is no longer present after repairing fuel pipe that was drawing air and bleeding system.

Update:
Most I could get on my short run to work in the pissing rain was 4v

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated

From what I found on the internet the other day is they top out at 4.5v under snap acceleration.

Interesting,
I'm going to order a cheap analogue voltmeter and leave it connected for a while.
What I noticed this morning is the pressure responds to throttle more than revs.
This might explain why I'm getting my issue under part load, never under full load.
I wonder if my old pump can even get the sensor to 4.5v?

I cave kinda moved away from fuel pressure with this fault. As I’m constantly getting 350-450 bar at cranking the injectors are not reciving signal to open from ecu to open and I have noticed the Rev counter doesn’t move while cranking anybody else’s do this and still start? Just so I know if I’m barking up the wrong tree.

The fault code has disappeared since getting the fuel system bled. From what I have gathered someone else has been poking about the van and he had been cracking injector pipe to check for fuel draining the system. I now have no fault codes but on the odd occasion the glow plug light flashes but no code are logged.

350-450 bar fuel pressure but it has been as high as 550 bar and still no start.

I have noticed on the live data that the MAP sensor value doesn’t budge it does when vacuum or positive pressure applied during test. Just sits steady at 97kpa but from experience vehicles usually start with a u/s MAP sensor, just run a bit lumpy or smokey.

My rev counter doesn't move until just after it fires.

Thanks.

This one really has me scratching my head. Plenty fuel pressure crank and cam sensors ok. Don’t seem to be getting anything off of the map sensor when cranking and my code reader isn’t picking up data from the MAf even when I bridge the terminals on the plug. The map does work when apply vacuum but when cranking it sits steady at 97kpa.

Could it be possible low compression meaning no suction?

It should run on default data without MAP or MAF input anyway.
Are the injectors firing?

No I have scoped them and they are not receiving voltage.

Also when I disconnected them to check resistance of injectors it registered the injector circuit fault so I’m assuming it’s not a fault with them and it’s related to something like a sensor or the likes stopping it.

What is the correct fuel pressure required to get it fired up just so I can totally put that one to bed?
