I will always pull a fuse to check it, and even if it looks OK, I will substitute it with a known working fuse, or a new one out of the box. Like bulbs, sometimes they look OK, but the filament (or wire) can have a small crack in it. :)

Fantastic
im getting a good feeling about this due to the fact that most of the parts related to problems with dpfs are on this fuse.
what odds do you give :D

No sorry, I'm not a professional vehicle mechanic, so my advice is purely generic, but I would always trust the word of many of the experienced mechanics on here, and Bambi is one of that particular club :D

BTW, I'll move this to the Custom section, as it isn't a Mk8

There's a fair chance the vaporiser is blocked, the port where fuel is sprayed into exhaust fills with carbon then diesel cannot be injected.Needs this checking,we use a mityvac.
Other likely suspect is a thermostat issue, causing coolant to not reach the required temp to initialise a regen.

Many thanks again
My engine temp is really low atm Its barely getting above 60 and that's after travelling over 6 miles.Basically the needle is just staying flat at the lowest reading
Could this be the problem

That's definitely not right, and will prevent regens,
Guage should be on middle mark once warm,I'd put a thermostat in.

You may still have a blocked vaporiser, but need to fix coolant issue first.
If by that point the soot load is above 150%,it won't do a regen itself and will need a static one.

Blocked/failed vapourisers seem to be the most common failure of the Transit DPF

We have never had to replace a dpf or use a ‘cleaning’ service

It's like all the people who have maf fault and replace the maf to no effect.

Also can I note that I can hear my dpf regeneration and I can hear it on tick over, the exhaust sounds throaty, so I propose that having the regens aren't overly hard to achieve even with city driving, so would personally look at faulty components first.

Firstly many thanks to everyone involved in this thread.
It turned out to be a faulty thermostat that had simply been missed by all the mechanics involved. The mechanic I took it to diagnosed the fault within a few minutes simply by the smell of the van in constant start up mode .
The van now drives better than it has since I bought it and we believe that all my problems including initial egr replacement where linked to the faulty thermostat.
Oh and I now have heaters that work :D
Kind regards pete
