Transit custom 2013 rear tail light issue

Postby Pstafford3026 » Mon Nov 06, 2023 3:46 pm

I've searched this forum up and down and cannot seem to find a solution.

I have an issue with my rear brake light, on start up of the engine I get 'brake light bulb fault'. The rear left brake light has power to it however when I press the brake peddle the 2nd filament in the bulb does not work. I have tried a new bulb and a complete new bulb holder. I have also tried using contact spray in the connections but to no avail. Has anyone had anything similar?

I have recently converted the back to sleep in and I suspect the condensation has effected one of the connections but I cannot figure out which it could be. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Is there any chance you have put a screw through the wiring loom when building the van?

Do both sides have this issue or is it just one side?

I don't know about the custom brake light bulbs but usually if a bulb has two filaments then its a stop and tail bulb, serving two functions, you can tell them easily because they have their locating pins on the side of the metal bit offset.

So I originally thought this but I've only fixed the flooring down and I believe the wiring loom runs up above the sliding doors and it only started playing up months after I fixed the flooring down.

I think I got the right bulb, guy in euro car parts got my reg before getting my new bulb. I may try another bulb for peace of mind though

I only say this as I have just had similar....check the plug that plugs into the light cluster. My bottom pin was rusty and causing the same problems you had. I had to remove the light, clean the pin fro. Rust(used a tent peg) and bleaned the socket crimp with contact cleaner. Was fine once put back together.
