Hi guys does anybody know for how long lighters stay on after locking you car.
Reason for asking today I had an accident some idiot rolled backwards and hit me.Luckily I had a dash camera on but instead continuing recording it switched it self after switching a car off luckily just cached accident but would be very useful if I had a footage of whole thing him claiming that I hit him.

It looks like yours goes off when you turn off the ignition, you should really wire it to a constant power source with a separate switch, so it stays on when you're parked up :)

He quite obviously rolled back into you, so you can see enough anyway (gotta love the Hanger Lane Gyratory BTW)

At the moment my is connected directly from rear wiper fuse which goes off with ignition. So I thought if it stays (I thing I read somewhere) for 30 min I would connect on that fuse so even if the car is off it would record for a while. But again can it drain battery for that time being on?

If you're using the van every day, or at least 2 or 3 times a week, then the camera won't drain the battery 8)

If you forget to flip the "camera off" switch and leave the van parked up for a week, then it might do, (as I have just found out   ) It's currently charging up as we speak

BTW, the plonker in front has a faulty brake light as well as faulty brakes :P

Yes and my insurance said that I can expect to hear from injury people because he will try to claim. But they said not to worry because i have video and witness and that he will loose NCB if he have any. That is why they already approve repair they expecting claim to be finish by the time when i get back from holiday and only because of video.
Dash cam "bless the person who invented" was bit expensive but it already payed off.

Those cameras are worth their weight in gold, I've had a couple of the SD cards fail so it's worth swapping them out from time to time

Yea I format my once a week for better work but they are cheap to replace if in need
and for those interested this is from manual regarding power points
"Note: The power point will turn off after 30
minutes if the ignition is on without the
engine running. Keep the engine running or
cycle the ignition to keep the power point
on.
Run the engine for full capacity use of the
power point. To prevent the battery from
losing charge:
• Do not use the power point longer than
necessary when the engine is not
running.
• Do not leave devices plugged in
overnight or when your vehicle is
parked for extended periods."

So tomorrow changing my dash cam from ignition fuse to 12vol lighter fuse.

Might be worth finding a permanent live and link it to that, you could probably fit a power timer circuit of some kind and set the timer. :-)
I wonder if the power point timer can be changed? My mk7 driver top dash socket stay on permanent.

I think that fitting a timer is a good idea but it may be very hard to find one!
