Does removing bulkhead gove more kneeroom?

Postby dunkuk » Sat Apr 13, 2024 7:55 pm

Hello,
I've been looking to get a van to use as a daily driver but also as a basic campervan.

I thought the Transit Custom was just about perfect, I'm tall though at 6ft3, looked at one today and I noticed my knees were sitting either side of the steering wheel housing, I could not bring my knees together they hit the housing. It felt a bit cramped in the leg area around the pedals compared to a similar age Trafic I looked at also, I think the Trafic seat slid back more.

Just wondering if removing the bulkhead allows the seat to slide back more and whether this would then give more space in the knee / leg area?

Thanks

It's a Transit Custom, so this is the correct section :)

It will only let iou lean the back a bit more (away from the wheel) I have a vivaro drivers seat but I'm sure it was the same with the ford one. U could just cut the section out and weld a slight box section in.

Yes it does. you could get an idea of how much differnce it makes by leaning the back of the seat forward and then seeing how much further back the base will slide.

I've just removed my bulkhead and the seat definitely goes back further but I didnt do it for that reason so didnt pay too much attention to how much further.

It’s possible you could also drill new mounting holes in the seat runner and move them back a inch or so as well as above
