Dealing with Scuttle leak diy

Postby workbox » Sat Jul 17, 2021 7:49 pm

Early mk8 had issue where all water from windshield ends up into the engine bay.
My version of mk8 comes with rain deflectors rerouting water into side voids.

Each void was filled with plastic sealed sponge. (anyone have idea why)

Today I pulled out half meter long sponges, no surprise one was full of water, removed water deflectors and installed 18mm flexible pipe using bit of sikaflex and zip lock ties.

Potential problem with that fix though is that you might find that all of the water doesn't drain through that outlet. On mine I found that a fair amount of water drains off the windscreen underneath the scuttle, which the original deflector piece would catch but your pipe might not. Keep an eye on it for water leakage.

I presume that those foam pieces are just sound-deadening; I binned mine, and can't notice any difference in noise.

Thanks Sam, You are absolutely right, today upon close examination I revert back to original rain deflectors.

Use your idea and seal Windcreen and overlap skuttle
With silicone sealing strip off Amazon or gorilla tape

So if rain deflectors we’re put back on and hose attached using inner tube thro wings
And Skuttle sealed with tape to winsdsreen should work
