Space above cab?

Postby glasgowdan » Fri Nov 23, 2018 9:30 pm

Has anyone got any information on using the space above the cabin in a MK8 transit? I'm considering buying one and have a set of 10ft ladders I strap to the ceiling that poke through into that space in my mk7. The MK8 have a panel screwed over this void and a peek inside the edge seems to suggest it's just soft padding, which shouldn't be a problem as the ladders will likely rest on the edge of the bulkhead.

Thanks

My bus doesn’t have the void as it has full hight roof lineing but on the vans they are similar to the mk7 but smaller as the cab roof panel is higher so you’re ladders would rest on the top when I looked at vans for my camper conversion I only looked at hight tops their was no padding inside the void so you’d have to protect the inside to stop damage to the front of the van some had a door above the cab some I looked at didn’t

I tried to take mine off as I needed to get 3 meters of pipe in my van, but it’s part of frame that holds the head lining so don’t think you can

I think he was asking if he was able to rest front of ladders on it I think he should be able to

That'd be a bit of a pig. I am sure it could even be cut? I just need a slot about 18" wide and 3" high for this end of the tripod ladder

I took all the bolts out as I never wanted to cut mine, but it seems to go into the head lining. I ended up making frame work and putting the pipe on the floor where the bulk head goes in which works much better

Mine is a steel shelf. Very strong. But note the area is smaller than on Mk 7 as the cab ceiling is higher.

In the pic it is the black layer just above the yellow foam padding blocks.

Mine is a UK 2016 Trend L3H3. Not sure if that makes a difference?
