mk8 security upgrages. My list and recomendations?

Postby ADUK » Fri Nov 16, 2018 9:29 am

Hi All

Here is a shopping list of security upgrades im going to get. Is there anything else I can do or should add?

Deadlocks on rear and side door.
Maybe deadlocks on 2x front doors?
Replock Hykee replacement drivers door lock.
ODB port protector. Any recommendations?
Front dash cam.
Reverse parking cam.
Mobile DVR and a few extra cameras so I can record activity.
Steering wheel lock.

Extra alarm? is it worth it and any recommendations?

Cheap mobile sim card tracker? any recommendations?

Is it worth armourplates on the door handles too or is it a bit pointless? I had them on my sprinter.

Id also like to disable the unlock feature of the central locking from the drivers door via the key.

Anything else?

Seems like youve done your research.

I put deadlocks and replocks on our mk7s and mk8s.

Later mk8s come from the factory with the software set not to open the back from the driver's key.
You're is an earlier one, so you need a mod. I don't know how you can get it done though.

Even a basic alarm is an option from the factory, does yours have one?
I ordered mine with Cat1, but another mk8 I bought from stock didn't have one, so I got an aftermarket one fitted.

Armourplates don't seem to be a thing on the mk8.

The best security is a van vault.

thanks for replied.
ill checkout garrison i think ive ordered direct from them before for other vans.
ive seen the option to add an armourplate modified to fit around the hykee lock for extra security, and they do sell armour plates for mk8 transit but i havent actually seen anybody with them.

im not sure if it has an alarm - im assuming no but not sure until i get it. ill enquire though and see if i can get a definate.
im picking it up thursday.

i wonder if ford will disable this for me with the van still being in warranty.

alarms - this seems to be a minefield! without me spending hours researching types and brands is there a recommendation on a brand or type to get?

thanks

If possible can be worth parking van against a wall tho not sure if best to protect the drivers lock or sliding side door. I would think if you have a alarm and door lock not to open then best to park it so side door is protected

I've got a bulkhead behind the sliding door (DCIV), so always try to park with the rear tight to a wall.
To open the rear doors you'd have to break into the front first, which has a rep lock.
To get out of park (auto box), you need the ignition key, or take apart some trim to find a hidden lever.
Even then, I have a dead lock on the back too.

I don't even have anything worth nicking, but it's the principle that counts.

Yes I do think or it seems to be that the back doors are harder to get into

Just having all my bits fitted full alarm with rear microwave sensor and rear siren, key tags, gsm tracker if it's lifted or alarm is triggered it calls me to advise then can disable the vehicle and door locks to rear, side slider and driver's door. :D
