poxy van

Postby bdcs » Wed Nov 14, 2018 9:33 am

My mk 8 has been a pup ever since I got it some of which may just be down to the dealer not being interested. First issue is it won't start if I leave the rear doors open which considering I jet drains for a living is a problem. It has been to the dealer 5 times where they charge the battery up and say it is fine so no fault found - when it won't start it looses all the dash information ie trip, clock and the radio station. Jump starts easily afterwards.

The other issue I have is the brakes sometimes jam on after a hill start, usually on a main road with the dash saying brake service required and showing the ABS light and the traction control light. They usually go off after you've sat in the way for about ten minutes and been abused by loads of drivers !

Any ideas because it has 57k on the clock, 2.5 years old and is s L3 H3 155hp RWD and the dealers don't seem interested

RWD :?: Doesn't it have 2 batteries :?:

I would say that one of them is failing, and would be causing several of the above faults :?

As said, some dealers will fob you off without taking the trouble to check, but the fact that they've had to charge it says to me that a battery is failing. The problem is that the seat needs to come out, and the earths disconnected, to properly drop test the batteries.

A voltage check will tell you nothing about the condition of the battery, but it may be worth checking the battery voltage when the engine is running, just to see if the alternator is in good nick. Should be around 14.4v

If you could borrow a couple of known good ones it would help to prove it one way or t'other. Whereabouts are you?

Dover, I'll swop them from my mk7 if they are the same as I have just bought two for that - should be the bloody dealer sorting it though

I agree 100%, but sometimes they need a little assistance to actually get on with the job. I suspect that they're not paid for diagnostic work, only to fix an identified fault, which may explain their reluctance to look for intermittent faults. I don't know, it's just my theory, but I do know that it's not limited to Ford.
