Where I went wrong!!! fitting a ply roof lining.

Postby StuartB58 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 4:15 pm

Just a note to anyone thinking of putting a ply roof lining and fibre glass in there van, use at least 8mm ply. I tried 3mm (I think) and it looked s**t as it bellied down in between the roof supports and I had to remove it and replace with thicker ply even the 8mm is just say thick enough and you need at least 3 pairs of hands to fit it.

I've always used 6mm and it works fine. Never even seen 3mm.

I used 6mm too, but I also glued a couple of small boards on the roof

No :( is also where I went wrong. I just put some wood 1x1 across the roof supports (3) and will put a length of wood across above the back doors to hold the ply up. The problem is squeezing the fibreglass in to place I spray glued it first.

All this post is for is to help others where I went wrong, mine is not going to be a full time camper just a sort of day/overnight van. I'm not planning on fixing the cooker in or putting a sink in I'll just use the loose.

Thing is knowing then what I know now I'd of gone for a long wheel base and a high top rather then a medium roof short wheel base but that's just my preferance.
