Night heaters

Postby mo51may » Fri Dec 07, 2018 9:18 pm

Has anyone fitted one of the Chinese heaters that are being advertised? I have converted a lwb, high roof Transit and am considering buying the 4kw model and would appreciate any information

No but I would think a 4kw one would be over the top unless you are camping out in artic conditions. I have 2kw Mikuni one in my camper and find that more than warm enough.

Go and take a look on Youtube as there are a few reviews, id suggest using the word "chinese" in the search somewhere. If you look up 'Mevi' he has installed and sort of reviewed. I do know he said it uses alot of 'amps' and he isn't moving his van a great deal and also it gets very hot.... not sure of the size of the heater he has installed. Im interested to see the longevity of these heaters as they are considerably cheaper but you also dont want it burning out and burning you and your van down.

Just my tuppence

We have a 2kw genuine eberspacher (we use the van all year round and didn't want to be rolling dice as to whether we were wrm or not)
And its plenty warm in our Jumbo camper.... Go too big and they don't get up to temp properly and end up getting coked up.

Chinese ones are something of a lottery quality wise BUT for occasional use probably worth the gamble....
Regular use winter wise.... Just buy eberspacher.

I've got a 2kw Chinese heater in my Mk5 camper.

Easy install, and it works well so far ( 10hrs use?)

I went for the simple rotary controller, and used the included tank.

Just picked up my 8kw Chinese heater. The fuel consumption noted I the docs indicates that it's just 4kw, hope it will be enough for winter camping.

Has anyone installed the heater below the floor?

Mines 5kw, it blows hot air out but it's a bit noisy on full chat but you can turn it down, it'll be more than enough when the van is closed for the night, i've not slept in it but would want fresh air ventilating around the van at night anyway, plus go for a dump and open the van to get out and I bet the hot air escaping would be like back draft

So, more power turned down should give longer life and less noise I guess.

I fitted the in tank straw too, not seen any noticeable fuel drop. I'm not in the van long anyway so I'll probably only use the heater in a blue moon.

I don't think there will be that much difference in quality imo It's not 2010 :P
