Battery Cable Positive 14300

Postby axxeman » Mon Aug 07, 2023 8:35 pm

Hello people, have an issue with the above cable starting to cause cranking issues as it has gone green and is crumbling.

Part seems tough to find ao wondering what thoughts there are out there, if any, on buying some thick auto wiring cable and refurbishing the loom? If anyone has done this, what spec of cable would I need? Saw this on Amazon;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autowiring-Aut ... =8-10&th=1

Thanks.

Mine's 2004 no air con, what year is yours? And is it just from battery positive to the starter? I suppose you just need cable of the same spec as decent jumpers.
Thank you Mark.

p.s. Saw a Ford one on Evilbay for £275. As if. More than the van is worth.

2006, no air, con TDI

Very small starter motor on these engines, does not look "man enough" ..would imagine if it had starting problems, it would not last that long.

will have a look tomorrow

Yes ford prices are over the top .
oh 16mm refers to the cross sectional area ..its squared 16²

I'm wondering how hard/easy it is to remove the cable assembly and then work on it. I believe it goes from battery>starter>alternator and as I have a 2 week downtime after Friday (15 days), I could ostensibly work on fixing it up. I did see one on Fleabay from a breaker in sunny Donc but he wants £35 for it and in the pics, it don't look particularly great. I could rebuild mine and seal the ends with glue-shrink. Would outlast the old bus then for sure.

The diameter of the cable will just be whatever it is as it leaves the battery positive. Depends on the condition of the copper at the starter connection as that's where it has apparently turned green and crumbly with the dreaded verdigris. Probably original cable so 19 years as good going and TC from Turkey are absolutely renowned for brittle wiring issues.
