Revert EGR Delete

Postby Dukhudson » Sat Jul 15, 2023 11:45 pm

I've just brought a '08 connect sport and I've noticed on my way home heavy smoke under acceleration and it definitely feels like it's remapped. I've taken off the egr pipe and seen the EGR blanked off and also the multiplug disconnected.

As much as I love the power I don't want the dirty diesel look as I use it for work as a detailer  . My question is if I take out the EGR delete blanking plate and plug the EGR back in will it run like a bag of bolts as it's been mapped out?

The map will naturally make it produce black smoke under harder acceleration, especially in higher gears, when the engine is under load, due to the map making the engine slightly over-fuel. You can avoid this by either; driving it in a calm manner, or, enjoy the extra power, and have the peace of mind that diesels do this when modified with a map etc. I know, as mine has been mapped, and does it. And I love it  especially when overtaking cyclists in third gear and flooring it at 30mph  I've also de-CAT'd it, but still passes MOT'S.
Having said all this, it shouldn't be "excessively" smoking
If the EGR has been deleted via the MAP, then it wouldn't achieve anything by plugging it back in. Nor would removing the blank.
Maybe contact a mapping specialist and ask their opinion, or pay to have it removed, and returned to standard.

A proper, decent quality map will make the engine run better and use less fuel to produce more power at lower throttle settings, so won't smoke excessively, unless you're keen with the right foot!
Some maps simply increase the fuelling and remove the rev safety limiters to produce power, and these are the 'black smokers' that you see on the motorway.

Mine barely produces any smoke, and the deleted EGR produces no problems either :D
