airbag module box removed from passenger side - any ideas?

Postby jconnect2016 » Tue Jul 04, 2023 3:50 pm

Hi, I purchased a 2016 Transit Connect (UK) with the intention of converting it into a mini camper / day van.

Yesterday I discovered that the airbag sensor module box (which the seat plugs into) has been totally removed from the passenger side - the thick black wire it connects to gone as well.

I do not get the airbag light on, but now I'm wondering if my driver side airbag works!

It might be nice to have the extra space for the conversion as I can now remove the passenger side seat without the airbag light coming on, but safety is my first concern so I'm wondering if anybody has any tips on what to do?

If I take it back to Ford, I'm expecting it to be an expensive job. Are they generally ok with this type of thing? I'm guessing the previous owners probably had it hacked unless it was done professionally if that's possible (I'm wondering if a carpet fitter once owned it so they could place long rolls of carpets down the side)

Are there other places which specialise in this type of job?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Are you sure the vehicle is fitted with additional airbags most only have a steering wheel one fitted, mine is a 2021 limited and has no seat air bags or N/S dash air bag
