Wet belt to chain conversion

Postby airconman » Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:58 pm

Hi

I'm wondering if there is anyone on here that is based in the North West and performs the said conversion?

Has anybody else done this, have you had any issues when the chain has been fitted?

Thanks

Yes - There are a couple of people here that have done this .
Don't know if they will be along to answer questions on it

In the mean time watch the whole video or skip to. 13:30 mins - tells you the difference

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l6-JUImJQw

also here ..he again explains differences

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goxwu9EzjiY

and here --- haven't watched this one all the way through, so cant tell you if its a good informative video or not

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0_g06xpn4s

note most garages are going to charge £800 or more and are probably going to doing it with no experience of previous conversions and fumbling along haphazardly, as one of the guys here has found out a couple of months ago !

i reckon if you are an AC engineer, your perfectly capable yourself

all the best.mark

Thanks so much on the reply.

I have been thinking I might just do it.

Yeah I have watched them videos.

I do not want to spend money with a garage that have never done the job before.

I'll post back on here when I decide what I'm going to do.

I was years ago just not changed my signature, I'm now a semiconductor machine engineer.

I have done it! You will be hard pushed to get anyone to do it I would have thought. You will need a few tools and a decent place to work. There are no issues with the chain, all the issues are with the rubber belt and by repacing it you eliminate them.

I think skf do a kit but i think you also need to buy a separate conversion piece from ford. Does anyone know the finis code for this and exactly what is required?

To clarify, the bit I’m on about is the hub which fits inside the pump sprocket and the 4 fixing bolts.

These are genuine Ford finis numbers that I used to swap the wet-belt to a chain on a 1.8 TDCi: These are all genuine Ford. I have just taken a look at some of Ford's prices, scary! I do not know if I would now use some genuine Ford parts, because of their ludicrous asking prices
