2008 mk7 ford transit 2.2 85ps fwd alternator broken off

2008 mk7 ford transit 2.2 85ps fwd alternator broken off,
Pulled away from a garage after filling up and within 50ft the power steering goes and battery ignition warning light comes on,
thought it had stalled but can hear engine running and being at a roundabout carried on over to a safe stopping place,thinking it must be a snapped belt and getting dark, cold and busy so struggle on home. looking at the alternator the casing is broken leaving bottom bit with bolt fixed to engine and rest hanging off it has not seized ,and the belt is somewhere up the road, any idea of cause and more damage to look for in the morning ?.

If there's only one bolt still in engine then the other bolts have came loose somehow and fell out leaving that one bolt to do all the work itself so was just a matter of time before something broke.....who was last to work on alternator

Had the van for a couple of years now only had a new wire from alternator to starter motor, not been removed casing seems to broken.

Had a lad round to look at it this morning the long top bolt is missing and 2 of the bolts on the power steering pulley where hanging out,took it away to fix.
Do you think these bolts have come loose on their own or not been tightened up sometime before I got the van and I have been lucky the last two years
it is left on the drive overnight but looks to much work for anyone to try nicking the alternator ? .

Well the top bolt was missing god knows how long for, been going over some rough tracks to a job lately and plenty of speed bumps
so assuming the alternator was rocking and caused the alloy case to crack, new alt and belts so all good now .
