Sorry, hit submit while typing.

I blocked my EGR approx 5 years ago.

140 fwd mk7 2.2.

Ran with engine light on since then. Now I've removed the blanking plate for the MOT ('cos it's a fail now to have light on  ) and she won't start.

Turn key and it catches for a second then dies.

Sometimes it'll limp along knocking for a second then die. No response to throttle pedal of course.

Only thing that it might be is that the egr is stuck open and passing gas, unless you've shorted a wire but even then I've never found that to be a starting or running problem. Maybe blank it again to see if it runs then you know that it is possibly time for a new egr.

Also the grub can pop out of the egr which is what keeps the worm /valve closed.

Your right Loot.

Blanked it again and ran like a champ.

Removed EGR and top of valve melted off looks like!

Got a crappy cheap egr for £100. Didn't even come with the steel coolant pipes!

So now I've got the EGR in front of the fire and the pipes in the freezer. Will the fit be enough or should I smear some quicksteel on the pipes when putting them in you think?

Sounds like you bought a non water cooled egr since no pipes. Hopefully they'll swap over easy enough but check if the hole goes through the same only I'm not sure if it will or won't lol.

I imaging they are pressed in and possible sealed or glued in with something.

I'd have got a tpuk modified water cooled egr for 65 quid tbh but it's there now, maybe you have Araldite or that quicksteel might do.

Modified egr??

It’s a water cooled one but no pipes in. Think they want another £35 for one with pipes.

The pipes came out ok. But don’t go in the cheap chinky crap new one! Grrrr.

Back in the morning and another 35 quid by the look.

I should have done it sooner. Mot tmoz. Left til last minute as usual.

That's the difference lol non water cooled rgr no pipes, water cooled egr with pipes :D

You can just bypass it, join the 2 water pipes together I think ppl use 15mm radiator copper pipe. Don't need it. Gets the mot done etc.

No, some have it and some don't, you'd think maybe three higher powered vans would and the lower ones not but I don't see any logic to it, my 140 lwb rwd 07 didn't have it, maybe newer ones did but in the uk there's no need.

Ah fantabulous.

See what your saying. Thought it’d be a different casting for a non cooled pump.

Copper pipe it is!
