MK6 2.4 RWD Bad Vibration in gearstick at around 40mph

Postby Longers91 » Mon Dec 10, 2018 4:07 pm

Hi Guys,

I have a 02 Recovery Truck, when driving at anything over 40mph the gearstick vibrates badly, like an electric toothbrush on speed  . Anyone has this before? Doesnt effect the driving or anything. Only thing ive noticed is 3rd and 5th are very close to each other, can catch 5th instead of 3rd sometimes when coming out of 2nd lol

Thanks in advance

Could be a number of things... but have you had any other niggles lately? Funny noises that came and went?

Could be clutch starting to fall apart and be unbalanced.
Could be propshaft support bearing or UJs need to get under and have a look for the obvious

Got under it at the weekend there,

front prop bearing wasnt tightened up against the chassis, tightened this and gear changes are far smoother but still bad vibration, im maybe thinking the propshaft isnt balenced? I noticed that one of the small plates on the outside of the shaft (i assume for balencing) is sort of hanging off, as if half of the weight is broken off the shaft.

Also thinking the shaking of the prop is what loosened the bearing bolt in the first place?

Anyone any ideas

Thanks
