Wipers stopped

Postby Windy2484 » Sun Dec 02, 2018 11:38 pm

Hi all

First a hello from me
I’m a self employed plasterer with a low mileage 2009 2.2 trend. Great motor and superb to drive, also brilliant for my tools etc.

I Dropped my son off tonight and all the way over the rain was lashing down one minute then easing off so therefore my wipers were going full speed and then slow then full etc for an hour or so

Then they suddenly just stopped working and left the wipers in the middle of the screen

I’ve checked the following fuse 67 - wiper stalk switch. This was fine
Fuse 58 - front wiper motor this was fine

Only thing I couldn’t check but did try switching was relay 23 & 25
Firstly any way of knowing if it’s one of the relays? Should I just buy two new ones and replace?

If it’s not those relays any ideas of what else it could be?

Losing money already as had to cancel my day tmrw whilst I check / buy the relays

Thanks all!

The wiper motors themselves are known to just give up....might be this if all fuses, switch and relays check out ok...

If you can hear the motor still running, check the nut that holds the wiper rack to the motor body. They have been known to come off :!:

Just replace the fuse is there's any doubt...they're cheap.

Update

After speaking to you guys, checked under the bonnet this am- the bolt had worked really loose so wasn’t griping the mechanism. Tightened it up, all sorted!

Cheers guys

All working but the wipers are stopping half way up the windscreen. Obviously thinking that
The park position.

How do I reset this guys please?

As said above, it can be a bit of a lottery finding the right position though :!: :?

Take the wiper arms off then let the motor do a cycle and stop on its own. Once it’s stopped, fit the arms .

So I’ve tried in vain to sort my wipers. Nothing doing....only thing I haven’t tried are swapping the relays for new ones

Is it worth it in yr opinions guys?

Wipers are working perfectly on all settings apart from the intermittent wipe and will not park in the correct position

Cheers

Cant you just slacken the arm off the motor and move wipers to the off position and re-tighten

Could this be the start of the contacts wearing?
Seem to recall that my Mk7 had similar symptoms in the early stages of wear which then worstened until I got so fed up with it I replaced the wiper motor.
Bought an aftermarket motor which was half the price of genuine and has been fine for two years.
Out of curiosity I looked at the old motor and reckon I could have adjusted/cleaned the contacts and got a bit more use out of it
Might be worth you having a look, its only a plate on side of motor to remove

Not sure but on one of my other vehicles i am sure the intermitent was controlled by a relay scrapyard couple of quid. Worth a go. I think R25 is listed as the on/off windscreen wiper relay
