mk6 Tddi won't start/ down on power - is it pump?

Postby Luke » Wed Nov 07, 2018 8:37 pm

Hi all posting this for a friend who can't log on here - any ideas on this we're thinking it might be the pump but any other ideas before he shells out all that cash for a pump

van is a mk transit 2.0 tddi which as started to struggle first start up or if left a few hours to the stage it’s needing a sniff of easy start to fire up

now the weather has got cold this has become a major issue - in the summer it was starting ok

the vans also down on power and has been since I’ve owned it (few years now)

I’ve had the following work done
*glow plugs
*airfilter
*oilchange
*egr blanked
*new starter
*injectors out and tested thinking this would sort the problem but with no joy .
*new diesel filter
once started the van runs ok apart from down on power and initial start up could this be a fuel pump issue? Or any ideas on anything else will be appreciated thanks

the reg of the van is KV05 XUU it has had an engine swap at some time
there are no fault codes when a diagnostic scan is done other than P1631 but we think that was due to the battery being low after being run down trying to start it

also how does he ID the pump to find out which one is fitted? is there any way of doing this without removing it?

cheers :D

It will have a vp 30 pump Luke  Have you checked for an air leak :?: You could also check the timing as the chain might be worn

don't think it's an air leak - i think they have looked over that

how would he check if the timing chain is worn?

Remove the round cover in the timing cover and turn the engine by hand till the hole in the sprocket (between the bolt holes) is at approx 1 o clock and remove the crank sensor and pin the crank with a 13 mm drill. You will have to turn the engine back or forward a bit to get the drill in.Then see can you pin the pump.If you rock the engine before putting you may see the slack in the chain through the inspection cover
