MK7 Won’t Start. ECU Dead?

Postby BeckyC » Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:37 pm

Hi Everyone.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so found a solution?

Our MK7 was running well, we parked it on the drive. Come back to it the next day, and it’s dead, no start..
When you turn the key, the dash lights come on, but moving the key to the start position, nothing happens.
I’ve gone through countless YouTube videos, and checked much…

Things I’ve tried..

Checked every single fuse in the van
Tried plugging on my OBDII port reader, the van isn’t found though the port has power
Checked the relays, all seem good.
Check for voltage on fuse 28 in the engine bay, it’s there (one video I watch suggested that)
The large relay under the seat still clicks, so that’s got power
Reseated every connector I can find
Tried the spare keys (just in case the immobiliser is playing up)

We are in the useful position of having a similar transit, which starts but is an MOT fail so I’ve swapped relays from that one No change, and the MOT fail still starts.

I’m off to keep researching, but I guess I’m hoping someone somewhere might come up with a “have you tried..” magic solution, and if they do I’ll be eternally grateful!

Thanks in advance

Becky

Have you checked the starter connections for power when key is turned? and the electric part on the backend of the ignition switch are common fails

Like chug says ignition switch on back of the ignition barrel are common problems but could well be broken wire down at the starter or bad connection or the starter which isn't a big job to swap
