Will a Di run with no manifolds on?

Postby vanfox » Thu Nov 01, 2018 11:18 am

As the topic says, I have a minibus ready for scrap but need to use it as a shed / spares for the forseeable future. I need to be able to move it around the back lot but I want to remove the turbo to fit to my van. Will it be safe to run it for short periods with the inlet, exhaust and turbo removed? I can't foresee any real probs after blocking the turbo oil feed but forewarned is forarmed as they say!

It may run but you run the risk of heat damage to wires & pipe work and outher flammable items under the bonnet and the possibility of something getting sucked into the engine years ago workmate of mine was doing repair work on his pickup truck with just the air filler off and a Robbin flew into the engine bay and was sucked into the engine jamming the inlet valve open had to take the head off to get dead bird out of it
