Post pics of old and new alternators showing connections. Use the upload attachment button, bottom left.

Your new one is the higher output one 95amp I think.
Swoping them is handy enough.
The heavy red will go to the terminal on the back might need a new ring terminal on the cable.
Your two small wires are one for battery light one for rev counter if fitted.
When I done mine I found the plug for the side indicator was the same as for the alternator if you didn't get it with the alternator.
Forget which wire is which but I'll have a look when I'm at the workshop later

HI Ernie. Two heavy reds come out of the alternator I fitted and one blue. I connected the red that was on the old Altenator to one of the reds on the new One and the blue to blue it seems to be charging

I think the op has two Lucas alternators not the later type  Op post a picture of the two  or do they look the same :?: Does the wiring with the plug come out the back or is there a 2 pin plug on the side :?:

Might be a bit late asking but what engine?
If it's a pinto you might have an old cortina alternator
We have a bit of a habit of assuming di unless told different
This is the alternator I was thinking of

The two heavy reds sounds like an old lucas unit escort/capri/cortina etc and they go onto a common connection inside the alternator if memory serves
