Running a Di on diesel kerosene mix

Postby twin wheel camper » Tue Jul 31, 2018 7:49 pm

Will it do any damage to a Di to run it on 50% red diesel 50% kerosene??
This is not in a van it is a engine driven Powerwasher so not bothered about the legal side but if it will damage the engine or more likely the pump then I won’t do it.
Red diesel is getting bloody expensive again bought some yesterday and it was 68p a litre  not long ago I was getting it at around 50p a litre so it’s time to try and save a little on my running costs (maybe  )

I know it will run on it but will it do any damage that’s the question?
I’ve being reading up on it and there’s a fair bit of info on the web but as with most things almost everybody contradicts each other
If running on it at say 50% kero will the 50% diesel give the pump enough lubrication or would I be better to say run 90% kero and then put cheap new engine oil into it at ...% ??

Its said that as kerosene is a lighter fraction than diesel it doesn't quite have the same lurication properties, so it is advisable to mix in a small percentage of oil, say maybe 5% veg oil.

I think by the time you have to add the cost of oil or 2 stroke or whatever you wouldn’t be saving much :x
Kero is up to about 56 p a litre so I’m just going to have to pay for raspberry

All fuel costs more in “beruit” or I mean n Ireland.
It always is more expensive over here than the mainland.
In saying that that’s buying it at the pump per litre but even for my house last year it costs the same or maybe 1p less buying it by the tankful
It could be worse ask bambi what it costs in the south  the people from close to the border buy it from north in drums and bring it south.

Find a local catering outlet and get some waste veg oil, filter it through a doubled up bed sheet or pair of old jeans, then add some to your kero

Isn’t that what we used to call TVO or Tractor vaporising oil. Never did Ferguson tractors any harm.
I used to have an ex army DAF truck (up until last Tuesday) and I met a bloke he had one and ran it on hydraulic oil which came out of airplane hydraulic systems it ran fine and didn’t smell funny. He drove all over Europe in it.

Nope straight kero isn't the same as TVO - the Fergy had a spark ignition system not a Diesel engine....
