Any of you Aussies had to replace your rear engine/gearbox mounts yet I have a 250 crossflow with auto box that I need to do this to for rego is it the same part as any other falcon models as this engine/gearbox was only used in Australia.
Cheers :(

Hi tropo, take your auto box mount and whip down to repco or rare spares for another one.the problem now is auto shops have thrown out the old parts books and some only go back 10 years.in my mk1 van i run a 3.3 with a c4,works well and tough...ken

Hi all, have had a reply from Ford on total number of Sundowners manufactured. The total is 140 which makes them a very rare Ford indeed! Cheers, David.

Dont know about the gearbox mounts mate but i believe the engine mounts are the standard falcom/cortina part from the same year.
Someone else said to take the part with you, its a good idea, but dont go to supercheap though, those muppets wouldnt know if their own arses were on fire.....

Same as a Falcon of the same era.
Get a price from Rare Spares, Repco, Bursons and anyone else you can think of, forget Supercheap or Autobarn.
Repco are often super pricey but can sometimes be surprisingly cheap, so ask them just in case...

My local "Motor Mate" has two guys behind the counter, one of them is a goldmine of information. I took the front wheel bearings down and he said we have these on the shelves, a second later he said hang on and dissapeared down the back, he came out with the bearings and seals and two carded kits. The carded kits were for trailers but were the exact same parts for 2/3 s of the price. Cant beat years of experience and a love of your job.

Wish mine had a 4 poster, but am working on it.
When you say 120 of that model built, do you mean sundowners built in 78 or sundowners of your package (colour, trans etc)?
I heard on another forum that the falcon diffs are too short unless you have some really wide boots on them, but if you remove the short arm and replace it with another long arm they should be the right length. Maybe its already been dont on the diff you have. A few quick measurements should tell you.
I`m still waiting on a reply to the second email to ford asking about the sundowner numbers and if they have any images of them so i can work out the decals and striping.
I wonder how many of the sundowners survived this long?
Cheers
Troppo

I have just been reliably informed that i was wrong..... It seems later model falcon ute diffs WILL fit straight under the early transits

the 5th number means van series 3 = sundowner

digits 1 & 2 = produst line

digit 3 = model year

digit 4 = body style

digit 5 = series

the last 2 digits of a sundowners model prefix will be 13

I just got my wheel bearings from Supercheap

also a ute diff will not go straight in any transit as the spring saddles are on the top of the axle tubes in a transit and underneath the tubes on a ute

Late model ute or wagon diffs should be a good bet, as they changed the wheel offset but kept the same track using a longer axle, AU onwards I think.
Spring and shock mounts are indeed different though.

My Transit is an ex Australia Post with sliding doors.
Model No: 52836
Engine H: 4.1L petrol
Transmission: Z (auto 3 speed)
Trim Z: saddle (long gone)
Paint: Z280 (I presume red with white roof?)
GVM: 2730
There is another plate that tells me it was rebadged as motorhome (no sign of that now) and the chassis and engine no are the same: CL9CYA81562C
How do I attach a photo?
