Advice please...

Postby mk1minter » Tue Feb 13, 2007 7:45 pm

:? Hi there, I have recently bought a MK1 twin-wheeler ex-German Fire-service LHD with the intention of converting it to right hand drive.. I was thinking that the best way to go about this is to try and get another one that is not in as good repair (a dog basically) but which is right hand drive and basically just swap the dash, steering box, and what-not over.

As I'm not doing the actual work myself but relying on my pal who's an auto-sparky, I wonder what your advice would be? Do you think its worth doing? Is it feasible? How hard would it be? :?:

I'm sorry for asking what might appear to be stupid questions but I'm worried about what I've let myself in for - any advice would be gratefully welcomed.

Cheers
Andrew

Yep but its much better than the forum  . (Larger population and the people always seem friendlier in the German Fire Engine Club)

we could really do with a how too on this :D

that parts you need are the

steering box
pedal box
handbrake mount (get out of a mk3/4/5)
dash top trim
rhd gear stick (fairly easy to mod the lhd one)
please add too this mark

the steering box mount plate will drill of and swap sides - done it on mine so i know its possable :D
the wiring for the dash will turn upside down - i think mark did it this way :D
dash panel - you can either weld another one in or like mark did cut a hole in the rhs and fill the hole the other side
