MK1 Ford Transit Ice cream vans in the Midlands

Postby Gizmo » Mon Jan 08, 2007 1:12 am

During late 1960s, 1970s, 80s & early part of 90s, there were several Ice cream vans in the Midlands (Clent, Kinver, Halesowen, etc), which had 2 ice cream cones at the front corners above the windscreen, a pair of 'big ears/wings' at the top rear & a red rocket on their roofs. Some had, "Catalano" name signs, others had, "Antonio" name signs on them.

Does anyone have a picture of this particular ice cream van?

It will be very much appreciated.

It's because I'm going to make a model of it to go with my fairground models.

This one, along with Catalano & Antonio (all used the same designed Leyland FG models with fins at the back) used to park at various stops in my old area plus at fairs, beauty spots, etc. They all seemed to disappear around early to mid-90s.

I don't suppose, you being this lucky to find one, could find me another pic of the "Off side" part of the ice cream van?

Now am on the look out for a suitable Leyland FG model for me to convert into an ice cream van... :)

Nevermind, maybe I could do a mirrored version of the artwork from the nearside to fit the offside panels. I think I have its registration no somewhere too...

Many thanks anyway. :)
