Here is old mot, back some years, that's it, here we have a cheap pattern parts failure now has 138,000 miles

Nearside Inner Front constant velocity joint gaiter damaged to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc (2.5.C.1a)

anyway the very next day after this weeks 2024 mot ...its failed now spraying out grease.
its black though ....so grease was replaced with the wrong sort in 2017
The original yellow grease (called tripod grease) is impossible to get at a reasonable price..
I've bought just the boot - a borg and beck boot.
but if i find play slop in the joint because of previous owners grease botch or failure because it was left for long time in 2016 / 2017, so maybe had dirt in it ..... if so, I will Not hesitate to buy whole new drive shaft.
Ive researched this yellow tripod grease , testimonies on the net and no one can make their mind up about it , some saying needed for the needle roller bearings . some saying black molly too thick ..etc
but i do know that the old black moly grease..isn't so bad as they are making out, it has some good properties ..i know ..such is that grease ..whenever its under load, or is squeezed, it liquefies so it will get into those needle rollers.
It would be nice to know other opinions
