2.4 from a 2.2

Postby Billybob55 » Sun Dec 09, 2018 3:53 pm

Hi I own a 2012 2.2 jumbo and oil light came on when stoped at traffic lights after a long motorway run. And it's knocking bad on bottom end. Oil light off when revs go up so thinking oil.pump gone.

Got it home and it's not sounding as bad but still hear the metal knock and oil light not going off.

Will a 2.4 fit straight in on same 6 speed box and do I need to change anything else other than the ecu hopefully come with an engine

Try replace oil pressure sensor for new one. Start with this. Oil level is still ok, not higher?

In 2011 there was a deep upgrade in Transit engines. 2,2 engine RWD is much different to 2,4 engine - completly different injection system, cooling system, engine ancillaries, electric loops, PCM etc., etc.
Don't think about it, don't look for trouble.

Would this be one of the vans that should have had the oil pump recall and if it was missed is it still possible it can be still done under the recall

Yep, the 2.2 will probably be Euro-5 and Siemens fuel system , 2.4 will be Euro-4 with Denso fuel system....not really interchangeable.

Thanks guys.

Think it's past the point of a new sensor but in fact need a new engine. Lots of noisy metal chapping

Question answered stay with 2.2 and not a 2.4 in its place Thank You

Thanks for the info wojciech re year change. I was looking for a new alternator for the 2012 2.2 - long story - brief look on internet = about £120. Pully OD - number of groves etc - now the price is £160 - found one for 119 on ebay with the 7 groves but shows it is for a 2012 2.4 - (2.2 not mentioned) - 150 A 12V outwardly looks the same except the connector and bat lead con would be in slightly different positiions.
The connector has two pins same as the old alternator but only one pin is used on the 2012 2.2. I don't know if both pins are used on the 2012 2.4.
Alternator prices from £330 to £250 for the 2.2 alternator with the 7 grove pully which has an OD of 58mm - some pulleys are 59 mm OD.
The info' found re' alternators does not always give all the required info' - seems the reg number or the vin number are relied on to get the right alternator.
There's a long list of part numbers - the part number for the alt found in Catcar was not amongst the list.
So at the moment it looks like paying over £200 for a replacement alt.

As our Polish guru Wojciech stated...Euro-5 started on September 26th 2011....totally different setup to the Euro-4's. Even the RWD's 2.2 vs 2.4 are completely different animals, not even close.
