Hi folks,
Wondering if anyone out there has managed to replace the stereo in a 2005 Transit or Tourneo. My Tourneo is a 2005 model - the one before the smiley style - and has a (presumably standard fitted) Ford 6000CD EON RDS stereo head unit - this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ford-Radio-600 ... B005DQBWZS
Nothing wrong with the unit, works fine but really would like to make the leap into the 21st century and have something with Bluetooth and/or a 3.5mm aux in to allow me to get rid of the pile of CDs I have kicking around the van.
I've tried various approaches so far -
[1] After previous (crap) experiences with FM transmitter Bluetooth units I refuse to use them - quality was awful. Not going down that road.
[2] Managed to find some cheapo £10-15 eBay BT units from China which after waiting a month to arrive (fair enough) cam shipped with a connector that had a slightly different form factor plug that would not connect to the CD change green port on the rear as planned. Like this one:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Aps-Blue ... 2749.l2649
So annoying because that's exactly the unit I need but just wont physically connect OK to the head unit. Despite *hours* of googling around I cant find anywhere which seems to sell the right connector that I could graft onto the Chinese BT unit (its only 3 wires, gotta be GND plus +VE for each channel at line level).
[3] Tried the Aux in cable hack at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaoerqdR41k
This is a great video, really well filmed and explained but I couldnt get it working. I've been soldering for about 40 years on and off and would like to think I know how to do it, but this guy makes a real tough job look very easy on the vid. Kudos to him. My attempt only resulted in very low level audio on both channels and that's no good.
[4] My next approach might be to take the 6000CD apart (again) as per the video above in [3], but then buzz out the connections to the PCB solder points and see if they appear (i.e. I have connectivity with a multimeter) at the pins on the green CD input on the rear. I figure they might have - the only CD input port spec I can find online is at:
https://www.tehnomagazin.com/Auto-radio ... nector.htm - see under FORD 6000 MNE MP3 on that page. I figure that if I were to solder the wires onto the GND AUDIO and L+ and R+ terminals that *might* have the same electrical equivalent connection as the hack in [3] but without the funky soldering internally on to the PCB.
[5] Or - I could just junk this annoying radio CD unit and perhaps buy a double DIN aftermarket unit (JVC/SONY etc) which already has BT / Aux in on it. Started looking at this but on measuring the dimensions of the 6000CD unit is is W180 x H90 x D160. And all the 2DIN units I've found on eBay etc. so far seem to adopt the double DIN size of W180 x H100 as defined at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_7736
But as the Ford 6000CD measures only 90mm high the slot in the Tourneo fascia would not appear to be high enough (width seems fine). Is the slot a non-standard (i.e not 2DIN) size? If it is non-standard that is a massive ballache; I'd rather not start hacking the fascia to make the slot bigger if I can help it... Plus then there is the question of adapting an ISO 2DIN unit's electrical ISO connectors to the non-ISO loom - that doesnt worry me too much as I can figure the electrical connections and either hack the loom or buy an adapter.
I've wasted hours on this so far, and so just wondered if anyone had any advice/experience that might be useful - even if its just to forget it.
Many thanks
David
