Disable slam locks on 2017 transit?

Postby glasgowdan » Sun Nov 25, 2018 10:20 pm

I'm looking at buying an ex-Carillion van, fitted with slam locks, and would like to know if anyone thinks they can be disabled at home by an amateur at all? If not, what sort of garage would I take them to? Would they be able to be disabled each day and engaged again at night?

Thanks

I did mine recently on my sliding door, it easy to do yourself. Here are the instructions.
You can't enable them again without doing the reverse of the instructions, so not practical to do morning and night.

Given the amount of vehicle crime at the moment, particularly towards Transit vans, you’d be mad to disable them!

I believe they don't make the van any harder to break into, just lock it for shirt periods while you're in and out of the van. I do a lot of to and fro and couldn't be bothered with using the key all the time.

In the end the dealer I am buying it from has disabled the locks for me. I'm going to get someone to fit aftermarket deadlocks as a general security measure.

Thanks

The reason I did my side door was because it is now a camper and I was paranoid about sliding the door shut with the front doors locked and the keys still in the back of the van. I have left the back door one still operative though for that little bit more security.

Hi. Do you still have the instructions to disable the slams locks please. I have left my keys in the back of my van too many times and had to climb under the passenger seat.
