Glow plugs

Postby Mad Husky » Fri Nov 23, 2018 8:05 pm

Just a quick question are there any differences between TDDI and TDCI glow plugs or do they all use the same ones as prices seem to fluctuate wildly local motor factor wants 45 quid but well known auction site 25 quid for Beru can go cheeper but hey get what you pay for. by the way suspect mine need doing as it's a pig when cold and the plume of smoke screen is a give away 115/350.

Glow plugs for all Mk6 Puma engines (2,0/2,4 tddi/tdci) are the same, finis 1309471.
During installation use white ceramic paste for plugs thread (never copper grease).
Very low tightening torque - only 1,5 Nm :!:

If they haven't been changed before take it nice and slow with the loosen - tighten - loosen technique as they can snap in the head.

I have no idea if they have ever been changed, only ever changed one set once and it was not on a transit.
Got to say not really looking forward to it after hearing and reading what can go wrong did think about warming the van up a tad before removing to expand things but I probably won't. I will end up on a time limit as usual as her indoors has commanded me to fix her heater in her car bloody dash out job, another job I am not looking forward to.

I know that feeling, I normally get half way through a job then get sent to the shop or something needs doing in the house  I have a snapped plug in my van (not by me) don't know if covering them in lots of loose juice the night before will help.

Get it as hot as you can remove the manifold and the wiring from the plugs blank off the egr pipe and run it while you loosen them a bit at a time :!: Dont let the socket fall into the inlet though
