hi lads, just bought a garmin sat nav but when i plug it in to the 12v aux it comes on and stays on whether the keys are in or not and stays on when the van is locked and keys removed, any help please

Up to Euro5 models, the socket(s) stays permenantly on. Which is handy if you are trying to charge something, but not so clever if you forget something is connected and it drains the battery down.

What Jim said...the lighter plugs are permanently powered up till ~2012 or Euro-5.

Yeah, found that out to my cost, my dash cam drained my battery being left on for over a day :( I’ve been told it’s an aux 12v outlet and not a cigarette lighter socket lol

Sir :shock: you mean ma'am :wink: but yes I put both my 12v supplies on switches so I can turn them on/off at my leisure :P

Suffice to say I just try to make sure the dashcam is not left plugged in until muttley instals a switch lol

Had a few cars in my life but all of them had the cigaret lighter socket controlled by ignition switch . Yours is probably an auxiliary power socket that normaly is full time on .
