Timing Chain or belt on a 2010 Ford Transit/Tourneo?

Postby wilbertd » Tue Nov 13, 2018 4:03 pm

Hi,

Tomorrow I'm looking at a secondhand Ford Transit/Tourneo from 2010, and since I got unlucky with the last purchase of a secondhand car (the belt broke), I really like to know if this transit has a chain or a belt.
I don't know the exact type, the announce just says: FBE6 TRANSIT/TOURNEO, diesel 140 Hk

I have been googling, but couldn't find.

Cheers,
Wilbert

All diesels from 2000 Mk6 onwards are chains.

To be honest it surprised me to found out there even were diesel engines with belts.
But this MK6, what does this stand for?

Mk6 model of transit ...yours being MK7.......and dont think having chain will stop breakages.... It doesn't ...... And if your fitting a chain, tensioner and guide kit buy only GENUINE FoMoCo stamped kits (around £160ish for the kit)

Well in my life I have had broken belts, but no chains.
But when should I be thinking about changing the chain would you say?

Mk6 (as mentioned) is a model of the Transit family...started in 2000 and finished ~August-ish 2006. Mk7 was late 2006 till ~2014-ish depending on the country etc..Current machines are Mk8's.

Hence yours being a 2010 is a Mk7 as Andz327 says.

These chains can also jump one or more teeth on the sprocket, presumably when the tensioners are worn.
Drink moderately, eat healthily, exercise regularly, die anyway.
