The Mk8

Postby Dominik1968 » Tue Jul 31, 2018 5:59 pm

Hi Folks. :D

It's been a while since I've posted a update on how I was getting on with the Mk8 LWB EL van. She's been with me now for close on two years and the mileage is now up 166,000 miles with the last set of Michelin tyres having done over 103,000 miles! No real issues other than the re occurring hill start, ABS and Cruise control stopping working from time to time,at every service Paynes Of Hinckley our local Transit specialist dealers had a look at it but couldn't find anything wrong, then as the warmer weather came things settled down and all through the spring and the early part of the summer there were no warning messages coming up. Then out of the blue up on the dash display came up message after message stating that the ABS, Hill start, Cruise control and one or two other things had stopped working, 5mins later the engine management light came on but the engine still ran fine, Back into Paynes it went (The first time it had actually been into a Ford garage for anything other than a service) and within two hours they telephoned to say the van was ready for collection. It turns out that all along it was a engine map sensor that was slightly playing up but it wasn't until it triggered the engine management light that it recorded a fault with the map sensor, anyway that was replaced under warranty even though the Transit was out of warranty as the fault had first been recorded by Paynes over a year ago and now all seams to be good once again.
Overall I honestly cannot fault the Mk8 once I got used to driving it (I had my Mk7 Jumbo for 9 years and did 750,000 miles in her) so getting into anything different will take a while to get used to, the Mk8,it's whisper quite and has done everything i've asked of it. Pretty good fuel economy if I take my time, she contantly gives my 38/40 plus mpg,Really lovely clear dash display and very good storage under the passenger seats etc.

Reagrds Dominik. :D

Hired a 18 plate MWB one the other week due to my Mk7 Jumbo being sick, and have to say it was much better than I was expecting given we have a Mk8 dropside at work. I do like the seat storage. I am also a fan of the rear barn door open latches - seriously looking into whether I can fit to mine.

Only down sides were it only having a tiny ikkle wee 2.0 (130ps) engine, with 4 bikes and kit in the back it slowed down on hills that my (admittedly 140PS) 2.4 doesn't notice with more load in. Wind noise was noticably louder too. Oh, and the Bluetooth radio would tether to my phone and then refuse to do anything due to the phone Bluetooth being off - our work one does this too.

Pick up my new mk8 6th September so looking forward to getting it. Was a bit worried about some of the post on here about fuel consumption and reliability, hopefully all will be ok

Yes even if I had it vantuned I’d sill have to slip the clutch on uphill starts comeing out of uphill junctions I’m just not happy haveing to pay someone to fit it but I’m not prepared to do it on me back in the drive way when it’s done I hope it doesn’t have a bad effect on fuel consumption with this done I will be able to use 6th gear a lot more on normal roads at the moment I only use 6th on duel carriageways and motorways or long bits of straight road I em getting 28>32 mpg at the moment it drops off a bit if I go off road or on single track roads at low speed I know the 135 mk6 tdci has a bad rep on hear but mine never gave me any engine problems but I do miss the power

Nice post Dom.
What HP you got in your Mk8..?
750,000...Jeez I’m only just over half way to that
I can’t complain with mine, injectors could probably do with renewing as spray patterns are a bit hit and miss but at £250 each it’ll be costly.
Was your Mk 7 a 200PS....?

Cheers Al.
That’s decent for a 4 Potter,750,000.
I wonder how many people from Ford read these Forums...
Bloody good advert for Ford that is.

Thought of that, in 5th the revs are about matched with mine in 6th - 75 @2500 - and it still wasn't happy to pull it. It is a big long old climb mind.
