Van Security

Postby Gloria » Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:27 am

I have just bought a Mk 7 to replace a Vito for my gardening business. I do have to leave some of the bigger tools in the van over night so I am a little concerned about the van's security. Is it worth fitting extra locks, I often see vans with additional locks on the loading doors, do these work? how easy are they to fit, are these a good option? https://www.screwfix.com/p/master-lock- ... 30mm/3866d

As Matt says.
Even if the door has a robust lock in the middle the tops are a weak point.

fabricating an internal cage might be an idea.

Been looking for the bjt cage build.

Get slam locks or dead locks fitted to the side and rear doors and a rep lock for the drivers door.
Go to an expert, they should also install a little metal plate on the sliding door.

Slam locks disconnect the handle mechanism and replace it with a key. This means if the drivers door is unlocked with a pick, and the central locking unlocks all doors, the doors still need a key to open.
Dead locks just add an extra lock on the door for the same reason, you just have to remember to lock it.
They can help peel and steal if fitted high up.

Drivers door rep lock is because the pick device is easily available and lots of tea leaves have them.

It'll cost a few hundred quid, but without them you might as well leave the doors unlocked.

Van vault is a good idea for smaller expensive stuff.

I have a Hykee deadlock on the drivers door, plus two deadlocks on each cargo door - one at the top, one at the bottom. Also shopped around and picked up a public liability policy which gives me £10k in tools cover.
